Today, the European Commission proposes a set of measures to improve the working conditions in platform work and to support the sustainable growth of digital labour platforms in the EU. Please find the European Commission's Press Release here and Just Eat Takeaway.com's response below:
As Europe's largest food delivery platform, Just Eat Takeaway.com welcomes and fully supports the EU Commission's proposals to improve conditions for workers and help them access social protections. Our company already employs tens of thousands of couriers across the EU, which proves that providing flexibility doesn't have to come at the expense of workers' rights. We hope that the Commission’s proposal will create clarity and a level playing field that ensures that companies across Europe are held to the same standards, so that all platform workers are treated with the dignity they deserve.Jitse Groen, CEO & Founder of Just Eat Takeaway.com
Since the start of Takeaway.com’s own delivery service in 2016, called Scoober, our delivery couriers in continental Europe are employed. After the combination with Just Eat we have started to introduce this very same model in other European countries as well, including most recently Italy and Spain. Therefore we do not expect today's proposals to have any negative impact on our operating expenses.
