About Just Eat UK

In 2006 Just Eat launched as the UK's original online takeaway platform, making ordering your favourite food simple, reliable and local. Fast forward to today and we offer customers up and down the country more than 100,000 choices on our app. Just Eat offers an unrivalled mix of independent local heroes and big brands, putting the great British high street in your hand.

More Information About

Our Couriers

  • Just Eat UK is a marketplace. We work with partners who do their own deliveries and we facilitate deliveries via registered self-employed couriers.
  • In the UK, Just Eat partners with over 70,000 self-employed couriers who choose to work with us for the flexibility and freedom that we offer. When and how often couriers deliver from our restaurant, retail and grocery partners is up to them, and is reflective of their status as self-employed contractors.
  • We operate a hybrid model which means couriers can choose to sign up in advance or just start deliveries whenever suits them.
  • All couriers must be over 18, be free of criminal convictions and meet all licensing and insurance requirements.
  • All couriers must have the right to work in the UK and must complete daily facial-recognition identity checks. Last year we substantially strengthened our systems against abuse by investing in advanced biometric technology. We work closely with the Home Office and industry partners to identify and address any potential methods of evading checks.

Our Approach to Selling Age-restricted Products

  • We take our responsibilities as a marketplace seriously and have robust guidelines for partners on the selling of all age-restricted products from energy drinks to paracetamol.
  • We ensure any alcohol displayed and delivered via the platform is done so legally and responsibly. Additionally, we can and do provide extra support by blocking accounts or addresses.
  • We can block accounts or addresses at the request of concerned family members and will always advise anyone with specific concerns about a loved one to get in contact with us via customer service.

Our Approach to Road Safety

  • Road safety matters and last year we became the first delivery aggregator to partner with leading road safety charity Brake.
  • We have extensive safety guidance in place for our couriers, including real-time SMS updates about potential hazards (such as severe weather and major traffic disruptions) and a bespoke Safety Hub which couriers are encouraged to utilise on an ongoing basis.
  • We are signatories to the TfL Road Safety Charter and the Transport for Greater Manchester Food Delivery Charter, and collaborate with industry peers to improve road safety for all road users.

Our Approach to Food Hygiene

  • We ask all of our Restaurant Partners to show us evidence that they have registered as a food business with their local authority.
  • We're committed to helping customers make informed decisions, which is why we display food hygiene ratings for every business on our platform.
  • Whenever any potential food safety issues are brought to our attention, our Compliance Team will review each case and liaise with the relevant local authority and Environmental Health Officers where necessary.
  • We actively work with our Partners to raise food hygiene standards. For example, we offer free, accredited food hygiene training to any business that signs up with us.

Our Approach to Allergens

  • We work closely with the Food Standards Agency and other industry authorities to help restaurants fully understand and fulfil their food safety obligations.
  • Our Restaurant Partners are legally required to provide allergen information in line with the 14 prescribed allergens under UK law.
  • We always encourage customers with allergies to speak directly to our restaurant partners.

Responsible Marketing

  • Just Eat is committed to responsible advertising to all consumers and complies with all relevant laws and regulations related to marketing.
  • We do not allow those under the age of 18 to access our platform, and therefore all marketing communications are directed in content and targeting to adults over the age of 18.
  • Recognising our responsibility as a major advertiser, Just Eat voluntarily complied with the new HFSS advertising restrictions from October 2024 and committed significant resources to preparing for these changes. This included introducing a dedicated HFSS tag for partners to inform us of the status of their menu items, developing guidance and manuals to help partners classify products, and providing access to nutritionist guidance to encourage positive menu changes.
