Today (Monday 17th November) Just Eat is proud to announce its partnership with road safety charity - Brake. This is the first time the leading charity for road safety has teamed up with a food delivery aggregator.
The partnership begins as Brake launches its 2025 Road Safety Week campaign Safe Vehicles Save Lives. One of the week's many aims is to help organisations where there’s contractors or employees driving for work to share important safety messages. Together, Just Eat and Brake will be emphasising to Just Eat couriers the importance of individuals carrying out essential safety checks before every journey no matter the vehicle - car, motorcycle or e-bike. For example, on an e-bike Just Eat encourages riders to think B.I.K.E.S*. - Brakes, Inflation, Kinetic Power, Electrics & Safety Gear.
Just Eat already has extensive safety guidance in place, including real time SMS updates about potential hazards (such as severe weather and major traffic disruptions) and a bespoke Safety Hub which couriers are encouraged to utilise before their first shift and on an ongoing basis. This Road Safety Week the Just Eat team is going even further to promote safety, introducing additional safety materials including new animated videos and peer-led storytelling showcasing real-life moments where courier safety habits have made the difference.
Every year, more than 1,700 people die on UK roads. Another 30,000 receive serious, life-changing injuries. The numbers are shocking, and there has been no significant reduction for more than a decade. This Road Safety Week we’re helping everyone understand what we mean when we talk about safe vehicles and why they are so vital in helping make our roads safer and preventing road death and injury. An important part of this is working with organisations, like Just Eat, who have access to tens of thousands of independent drivers - together we can help save lives.Ross Moorlock, CEO at Brake
We've partnered with Brake because we share an important common goal: making roads safer for everyone - no matter how they’re travelling. This collaboration is a meaningful opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to protecting the safety and wellbeing of our courier community.Louise Francis, Delivery Director at Just Eat
The partnership with Brake will also see Just Eat colleagues fundraise for Brake in the coming year.
Examine front and rear brakes for wear and tear by pushing the bike forwards and backwards while the brakes are applied. Ensure handlebars are level and firm.
Make sure tyres are properly inflated, with good tread and no sidewall cracks. Confirm wheels are secure, spokes are taut, and tire pressure is accurate.
Confirm the battery is charged, the motor starts properly, and check for unusual noises or vibrations.
Ensure brakes and lights are working, as well as your display unit. Assess electrical cables for damage. Keep battery terminals clean and dry and secure the battery before each ride.
Check the chain is lubricated, pedals move smoothly, and the frame is crack-free. Service your e-bike regularly. It’s best to use a lock, helmet, and high-visibility gear for added safety.
